Perfect your financial form

Perfect your financial form

Happy Monday and Happy new month!

Over the past few weeks, I've had the chance to meet so many of you in person at several events and little do you know you keep giving me newsletter topics (thank you).

I feel like we've got a theme going on at the moment, today's read is actually to tell you to calm down in the nicest way possible.

Would you squat 200kg on first attempt with little squat experience?

I love a bit of ambition but you'd be very likely to injure yourself, fail or just give up.

To see healthy results, you'd start by perfecting your form. Then you'd start at a comfortable weight then challenge yourself gradually before you hit the big weights (that's if 200kg is big to you).

With that, you already have proof that you have the correct form, evidence that you have some competence and then the confidence to go beyond.

I feel like you guys know me by now. This isn't about the gym.

You need to perfect your financial form.

The drive to have a robust savings pot, become a seasoned investor, clear your debt, buy the house is fantastic - but it needs to come with a method.
  • Build the habit of saving - even if it's just £50 a month.
  • Cut back on your unnecessary spending - so boring, I know.
  • Make a plan for your debt repayment because it won't magically disappear.
  • Understand your cash flow (this is really the bare minimum).
You perfect your form, then build your competence and confidence to hit the big milestones.

This isn't an attempt to dim anyone's motivation btw. As an over-achiever myself, I think there's so much value in aiming high. Speaking from experience however, success in those departments have typically come when it's accompanied by a plan.

I always say a goal without a plan is just a statement

You actually have to do the legwork. Get your form right and give your financial goals a better chance at being ticked off the list.

The irony of today's newsletter is I actually failed at getting back to the gym in October… will report back next week

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to catching up with quite a few of you in 1:1s so maybe you can hold me accountable.

Separately, thank you SO much to everyone who voted for me in this year's Fnfluencer Awards. Pleased to say I brought home a trophy for us! 🏆
